Celebrating Community, Collaboration, and Recognition at the 107th Annual AATSP Conference in Panamá

The 107th Annual AATSP Conference in Panamá (June 26-29, 2025) was a powerful celebration of language, culture, and collaboration. As educators, advocates, and leaders in Spanish and Portuguese language teaching gathered from across the globe, the energy was unmistakable: we are a united, passionate community with a shared purpose—to empower learners and preserve the richness of the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking worlds.

Idioma Education & Consulting was honored to be part of this vibrant gathering and humbled to be recognized with a Friends of AATSP award. This distinction, given to individuals or organizations that demonstrate exceptional support for the mission and work of the AATSP, is a testament to the relationships and shared values we’ve cultivated over the years. We are deeply grateful to the AATSP for this acknowledgment. Sybil Sanchez, President of the New Jersey Chapter of the AATSP and a close partner of Idioma, graciously accepted the award on our behalf.

The New Jersey Chapter of the AATSP, an impactful partner of Idioma Education & Consulting, was also awarded the Large Chapter of the Year. This recognition reflects the chapter’s unwavering dedication to professional development, cultural engagement including the promotion of activities hosted by the AATSP, and the creation of inclusive spaces for educators and learners alike. We are proud to collaborate with such a dynamic and committed group of educators.

Another highlight of the conference was the presence of Kim Haas, host of the acclaimed PBS series Travels with Kim Haas. Kim brought her passion for Afro-Latinx culture and cuisine to life by hosting a vibrant tasting event at local restaurant La Tapa del Coco. This event gave attendees a literal taste of the diverse flavors and stories she shares on screen. Looking ahead, Kim will be leading an upcoming journey to Colombia from July 16-24, 2025, where educators can dive deep into the country’s rich cultural tapestry. A heartfelt thank you goes to Executive Director Dr. Maria Carreira and the entire AATSP team for hosting such a meaningful and well-organized event. The 2025 conference in Panamá beautifully showcased the strength and unity of our Spanish and Portuguese language teaching community. Through sessions, networking events, and celebrations, we were reminded of the collective impact we can have when we work together.

From everyone at Idioma, gracias and obrigado for allowing us to be part of this inspiring journey. We look forward to continuing our shared mission to elevate language learning and cultural understanding for all.
