“Sabor Andaluz” provides just that; a “taste” of Andalusia’s colorful and vibrantly rich history via cuisine, stunning historic sites (including Moorish stone archways and fountains dating back to the time of “la convivencia” when Jews, Muslims, and Christians lived in relative harmony), quaint and traffic-free old towns and white villages, vibrant nightlife with authentic flamenco dance, classical guitar, and gypsy song; amazing viewpoints that depict what James Michener in Iberia calls “duende”, stunning beaches, vibrant art scene (birthplace of Pablo Picasso and Antonio Banderas), renown holiday celebrations and so much more. We will begin our journey in Malaga and explore the Roman ruins and stroll the city’s happening port. We will then explore Granada, featuring the Alhambra and the Arab quarter called the Albaycin, the Cathedral where Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand are buried. We’’ll go to the gypsy caves of Sacromonte and experience an evening of flamenco and enjoy the colors and flavor of the region. Next we will visit Ronda, the most scenic and historically rich town of Andalusia. We will enjoy a guided tour of the town and the oldest bull ring in Spain. Ronda is the birthplace of the art of tauromachia. We will also partake in Some of Andalusia’s famous wines while visiting the vineyards of the region. In addition we will tour the Picasso Museum, attend a soccer game, a Spanish school to witness firsthand the different pedagogical styles, an olive oil factory and taste some delicacies such as figs, honey and almonds which date back to Spain’s Moorish past. Finally we will head to Cordoba where we will see remnants of Al-Andalus’ Moorish kingdom’s capital. We will be given a guided tour of the Mezquita, an 8th century mosque turned cathedral, and then visit the Jewish Quarter and the Roman Bridge. During the week, we will dine at several fine restaurants, including “El Pimpi” on our last night. This journey through Al-Andaus is packed with everything one could possibly fit into an 8-day trip. You will want to return for more! ~ Dr. Lynn McGovern
