New Jersey CE Hours-Based Program

An Altnernate Route Licensure Program designed for Aspiring High School World Language Teachers*.

Have you thought of becoming a World Language Teacher but don't know where to begin?  The Idioma CE Program for Aspiring High School Teachers is designed for you!

 

Steps to earning your New Jersey Standard Certificate:

Step 1: Candidates must apply for a New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility. Here is what you need to complete this step:

  • Create an account at NJEDCert Portal.
  • Transcripts with Bachelor’s Degree with at least 30 credits in the subject area in which you wish to teach.  (Idioma offers courses to obtain these credits) 
  • 3.0 GPA minimum if you graduated after 9/1/2016.
  • Passing Score on Praxis II Exam for your language content area. This exam is offered by ETS.
  • Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) in Target Language with a score of “Advanced Low” or higher is required. (Idioma offers practice opportunities and coaching)
  • Pass CORE Academic Skills for Educators assessment (this exam is offered by ETS) or score in the top one-third percentile on the SAT, ACT, or GRE for the year the test was taken.
  • Mandated physiology and hygiene test offered at NJDOE County Ed Office. For information about the Physiology & Hygiene Test, contact your County Office of Education.

Step 2: Register for the Idioma 50 hour Pre-Professional Course.  This course must be completed before you can legally teach independently in your classroom.  If you do not yet have your CE, you may enroll in the 50 hour PreProfessional Course only however you cannot move on to step 3 or 4.

Step 3: Once you have your CE from the Department of Education, you can look for a teaching position. Districts will hire you with a CE 

Step 4: Complete the application for the Idioma CE Hours-based World Language Program for High School teachers.  Please allow 1-2 weeks to review your application.

Step 5: Choose your payment option and register for your Idioma CE Courses.

When can I begin the Idioma CE Program Courses?

Once you have been completed the application and been accepted into the Idioma CE Program, you may begin the program at the start of any of these 2023-2024 cohorts dates.  Course registrations must be received one week prior to the start of the course.  For information about cohort availability, please email ceprogram@idiomaconsulting.com.

Idioma CE 2023-2024 Tution Rate: $5220

Idioma CE Program offers several flexible payment options.  Tuition may be paid in full at the start of the program (1 payment), at the start of the academic year (2 payments), or at the start of each course (8 payments). 

  • Pay in Full: $5,220 (one payment which includes all courses and fees)
  • Pay by Year: $2360 (two payments plus an additional $500 Technology & Programming fee to be paid on acceptance into the program)
  • Pay by Course: $590 (total of 8 courses over 2 years plus an additional $500 Technology & Programming fee to be paid on acceptance into the program)

Throughout the 2 year Idioma CE program, you will work with the support of two experienced educators: a world language building mentor chosen by you who is a part of your district, and an World Language Instructional Coach trained by Idioma Education & Consulting.

You, your world language building mentor, and Instructional Coach will work together and you will be provided with the following support throughout the program.

  • One-on-one virtual meeting twice a year with an Idioma Instructional Coach
  • Email/phone call/virtual meetings with Instructional Coach at least once a month in small group or individually
  • Classroom observations and feedback by the mentor and the instructional coach
  • Engage with other candidates and instructors through coursework and discussions
