About OWLA
OWLA is committed to serving and representing all world language teachers in Ohio through a variety of initiatives:
Leadership in Research and Resources: Ohio has long been a leader in advancing world-language education, and OWLA continues this tradition by sharing research-based practices, innovative instructional strategies, and high-quality resources that support teachers in growing language proficiency and intercultural competence in their classrooms.
Annual Conference and Professional Development: OWLA organizes a yearly conference and offers workshops designed to educate and enrich world-language teachers in K-12 settings.
Mission & Vision: OWLA’s mission is “Every Ohio student will be proficient in a second language, which is essential to a world-class education.” Its vision affirms a commitment to “articulated, standards-based world language and culture study beginning in the primary grades, so that every learner, from early childhood through adulthood, acquires a high level of language proficiency and intercultural competence.”
Recognition, Grants & Advocacy: OWLA supports the profession by offering scholarship opportunities, recognizing excellence through various awards, and advocating on behalf of world-language educators at the state level.

Course Discounts: Members receive discounts on graduate-level courses offered by Idioma Education & Consulting, facilitating affordable professional development.
Scholarships: $500 scholarships are available for OWLA members enrolling in Idioma courses through CSU Pueblo’s Master of Education with World Language Emphasis program.
Conference Support: Each year, one OWLA member is eligible for a $350 travel subsidy to attend the OWLA Annual Conference.
Monthly Newsletter: Members who register for Idioma courses receive the "Idioma Star" newsletter, providing insights, updates, and resources pertinent to world language education. Anyone can register for the Idioma Star by entering their email at the bottom of the idiomaconsulting.com website.
