French Instructor & Workshop Facilitator
Chris Carroll brings an innovative communicative approach to language education, drawing on interactive student-run routines. Former Department Coordinator at North Andover High School, she implemented student-centered learning strategies, authored proficiency units in multiple languages with an emphasis on social justice, and adopted research-based language teaching methodologies within her own classroom. She pioneered a 15 year exchange program that inspired life-long global citizenship for hundreds of students.
Chris was a teacher mentor and trainer. Her dedication is further evidenced by her leadership in spearheading initiatives such as the ACTFL proficiency revision and integrating the Seal of Biliteracy into the curriculum, which emphasizes real-world language skills for students. Chris's involvement in the Massachusetts DESE Curriculum Frameworks adoption committee showcases her commitment to improving educational standards on a broader scale. Additionally, as a respected teacher of French and workshop facilitator at Idioma, Chris's dynamic teaching style and her ability to incorporate cultural competencies into her lessons make her a pivotal figure in the field of language education.

Course Description
Energize your classes with films that captivate imagination, make us laugh and cry, lead us to examine the essence of life. This French course offers the unique opportunity to sculpt the direction of communicative competence in your class at any level, based on film, film clips and messages straight from the bedrock of French cinematography. As a French teacher, you will be asked to develop and enrich your own linguistic skills, while adapting engaging activities for your students. Your fellow colleagues will share their own creative inspiration with you as we travel from animated film to thought provoking historical drama. Conducted in French.

Course Description

Course Description
This intensive program is meticulously designed to empower educators with the essential skills and knowledge needed for excellence in teaching languages and preparing for the content exams with dedicated sessions for practice exams and strategic test-taking approaches.
Throughout the six weeks, participants will delve into strategies to improve linguistic and cultural competence, communication proficiency, and general exam structure and expectations. The course will cover a spectrum of topics, including grammar intricacies, vocabulary enrichment, and pronunciation finesse to demonstrate appropriate target language proficiency in all three modes of communication. Special emphasis will be placed on cultural content, honing reading comprehension, and interpretive skills, and crafting well-organized written responses.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will have the opportunity to:
Develop a deep understanding of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary to achieve appropriate target proficiency communication in the target language.
Comprehension: Enhance the ability to analyze and interpret texts, enabling students to navigate and understand written materials with confidence demonstrating appropriate target proficiency comprehension.
