


Supporting Multilingual Learners: From SEI Endorsement to Classroom Implementation
Course Description
This course is designed to meet the Massachusetts recertification requirement of 15 PDPs related to SEI or ESL. This is not the RETELL SEI Endorsement Course.
This course covers research based strategies in the classroom to engage and support the Multilingual Learner.. This course provides opportunities for students to delve deeper into English Language Learning in the classroom. Students will have the opportunity to implement several strategies in their own classroom. Students will report and analyze the effectiveness of the new strategies in their classroom. Students will develop a repertoire of go to tools that they can use in any circumstance.
A fundamental aspect to student learning revolves around research based practices that support language learning for ELL students. Participants need tools that are practical and enhance learning in their classroom. These strategies are language focused but will result in higher academic achievement and engagement for all learners.
By the end of this course, participants will have the opportunity to:
Students will understand the role of general education teachers in English Language Development of Multilingual learners
Students will reflect on the difference in terminology between ELL and MLL
Students will understand WIDA scores and how to read scores to better help their students.
Students will revisit and implement SEI strategies with a focus on English Language Development to increase student engagement, motivation and achievement in the classroom.
Students will analyze and implement SEI instructional strategies that engage the different domains of English Language Learning; Reading,Writing, Speaking and Listening.
Students will include strategies into current lessons or plan new lessons using multiple strategies to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom.
Conducted in English.

While the graduate credits and professional development hours earned may be used for salary advancement, degree completion and state licensing requirements, Idioma does not provide assurance that any state licensing board or school district will accept these credits or hours for those purposes. Participants are advised to check with the appropriate agencies and gain approval prior to registering. An official university transcript is available upon successful completion of coursework through the selected university from which the participant chooses to receive credit. Participants who complete the course for graduate-level credit will receive an email with instructions on how to request an official university transcript.
