NEW COURSE for Summer 2026: July 6 - August 14
Course Description
This course focuses on using novice-level Chinese readers and short novels as primary instructional tools to support communication for beginner learners in K–12 settings. Participants will explore research-based methodologies grounded in Comprehensible Input (CI) and ACTFL World-Readiness Standards to facilitate language acquisition through meaningful, communicative input.
Throughout the course, participants will examine strategies for selecting, adapting, and implementing level-appropriate Chinese texts to develop interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational communication. Emphasis will be placed on scaffolding techniques, literacy development, and culturally responsive teaching practices that support diverse learners, including English Language Learners (ELLs).
